Locked out?
Stay somewhere safe and lit. Don't force doors, windows or car doors; the repair usually costs more than the lockout. If a person or pet is trapped, especially in a hot car, call 911 first.
After a break-in
Report it to the police before repairs so the damage is documented. Then the locksmith can replace the damaged lock, reset or reinforce the strike, and rekey every lock if keys were taken.
Safes and file cabinets
Some safe openings leave the safe unusable. Ask about the method before work starts.
Be ready before it happens
Save the number, keep a spare with someone nearby, and know where your vehicle's registration is.
